It's finally time for a new zine and oh boy it's a special one!
So far my zines have been art collections but this is the first with its own running narrative. Sort of. I don't want to give too much away but this serves as the introduction to a story I've been talking about for a little while. It takes place in a fictional town as a random confluence of events leads to a thriving music scene being established practically over night. In this zine, you'll get to see these events through the perception of someone who has experienced similar events before who is now watching things unfold with equal parts excitement and fear.
Like I said, I don't want to give too much away yet so for now I'll mostly let it speak for itself. This is also the beginning of a much larger story that will be followed next by a short comic.
Individual pages will be added to the gallery soon but for now you can download it for free right over here.
Long time fan and reader here 👋 deciding to do live takes as I read Distant TV (great name btw)
ReplyDelete-First page: love the concept of dreams and memories and the use of writing it down to make it real. Super meta. Big fan.
-2-3: The tone of the narrator is great, and I found myself reading through both pages—it was gripping! Love the titles for the street art on page 2. Also love how much (and how deftly) you’ve incorporated actual photography into your art. It makes it feel all the more real (maybe because it’s written down?) a week between the party and Sighting 001–spoopy floaty guy! The shot gives me Loch Ness sighting vibes, which is a good effect for what it is
-I’m laughing nervously after reading that Miles Down (would 🥵) interview 😳😳😳 the sudden shift at the end of the first page and Miles’s intense imagery (thanks for the GOOPY MENTAL IMAGE—nah but fr the imagery was good enough I was able to imagine it 😭👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻) the interview was really well-written and each character had a distinct voice (though I can hear your writer’s voice through it all)
-Mat will be happy to know slug has a reference lmao though I know your love of the slug too. Great ad!
-the two page spread is beautiful! Where did you come across that?!
-powerbottomviolence?! 😂😂😂😂 I’m dead lmaooooooooo I really loved all the reviews and the bespoke review system for each band lmao super well done. So many eyes. And the fucking song titles! So good
-loving the band posters and love how you used an image I thought was gonna be in your other comics—wasn’t he supposed to be the literal wage slave in the other comics and he gets fucked by everyone?. Very cool and looks good!
-again, the blend of photography and art is stunning
-love Cassie’s Warning and her sentiments. She’s rad af lmao
Great threads of foreshadowing throughout! We love bread crumbs. It’s really awesome to see things ive listened to you talk about for years. This blend is truly special. I think you got something incredible on your hands with this, and you best not keep us readers waiting long because I wanna know what happened at the Mulch Desert (RIP)
Really though—fantastic, incredible work. You should be really super proud of this one
